World Cup Final – Matane 2013

WELCOME to the official website of the 2013 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup Final in Matane.

The competitions will be held in Matane, from August 22th to August 25th. Whether you are athletes, volunteers, members of the media, spectators or citizens of Matane you will find here all the information you need to enjoy this event to a maximum.

GOOD TO KNOW

Athletes are divided into 4 divisions of disability, with a total of 12 functional sport classes based on the extent of the disability.

Blind and visually impairedBlind and visually impaired athletes ride on tandems, accompanied by sighted pilots.
Cerebral palsyAthletes with cerebral palsy ride on bicycles or tricycles depending on their disability.

Locomotor Disabilities

Amputees and other individuals with an apparent functional disability ride on bicycles, if necessary with approved adaptations.

Handcycling

BRIEFLY

  • More than 500 million people worldwide live with a disability. This represents about 10% of the world population.
  • Para-cycling is the third most important sport at the Paralympic Games after athletics and swimming.
  • Para-cycling has been governed by the UCI since 2007. The UCI is therefore one of the first International Federations to manage and develop a sport for both able-bodied athletes and athletes with a disability.
  • In 2010, Baie-Comeau hosted the first major para-cycling competition in North America, UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships.
